Those who support this probably look at it more as minimizing risks that stem from ByteDance being a China-based company and subject to that government either influencing content presented to US users, or hosing up the private data of US users. 1/

The TikTok ban is 100% about presenting a credible military deterrent to a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. The natsec establishment believes this deterrent to be ineffective if the PRC and ByteDance hold algorithmic influence over US public opinion.
