Wow! I was with a few law school colleagues in Portland Building, counting the time between seeing the flash and hearing the thunder. Sadly our view is over a different car park.

This is only the second closest I've been to a lighting strike, though. Around 2000, I was staying at a friend's house in Colwich near Stafford, and the building next door was hit. It was the loudest thing I've ever heard.
