So Israel will use force to prevent the new Syrian government from controlling southern Syria. This is not a minor thing. It slices off a second large part of Syria—after the northeast—and will facilitate the consolidation of anti-state power centers. Over time, it's likely to be very destabilizing.

Sharaa, like Assad before him, instead wants SDF to dissolve entirely and members to join as individuals.
That’s precisely what SDF refuses to do, since it would eliminate them as a military force and end their political project.
