The sonic measure is weird, and as delta mentioned, even at several k/s that's the low end of the velocities in play and STILL many times the speed of sound

Idunno... Something like "small fractions of the speed of light" might be more to my taste

I wonder if any of the material sent outwards was done at or below the escape velocity of the system and one day will fall back as directional inflow you could detect.

Like the spray of water from a hose you shot way into the air coming back down on your shoulders as a kid in summer.
