I have rebranded my discord server. I often thought that discord is a fragmented place, and if you want to follow vintage tech youtubers you have to follow multiple discords. I think it would be a nice thing to have a server that can be a central hub. It wont include every channel, many already /1 - ThreadSky

I started a discord for maker hacks and you’re absolutely right it takes not just time but mental energy especially when getting started and it has little natural momentum so mine rarely had any buzz other than my weekly D&D game

Plus keeping the idiots and scammers under control. I think a lot of servers let anyone in to boost activity without realising people won’t stay around long in hostile environments

have their own thriving discords, but there are channels I know of that dont have the time to start up a new discord and maintain it.
To start with I have @tme-retro.bsky.social @retrobytes.bsky.social and @leesmithsworkshop.bsky.social as co hosts.
I will slowly build this up as I see creators /2

That would fit in with our channels (this will be subjective, there is no point having wildly disparate channels)
But eventually I hope this can be a home for many stray youtubers of a like mind.

As an incentive (as if you need one) I have released a discord only video. It was just me messing around in my workshop and not worthy of a full release, but I can see me doing this more in the future.

This is great.. however, I think all of us aren’t realizing the knowledge we are leaving behind when we use discord. It’s not searchable like forums. Think of how many time you searched for something retro and the answer was on a forum post from 15 years ago. I am truly worried about this.
