I administer a page for a non profit. Total monopoly. Even WIX is hooked up to them. It was convenient for a few years. Now even "free" isn't worth it.
I know networkers for animals in kill shelters (I was one) stay there as there is no other option to save them. Without social media millions more will die than already do. I commend them because watching death every day of sweet animals is mentally exhausting.
Because it's the easiest way for them to build their following with a manipulative algorithm. They don't put the time into learning new tools and manually engaging the audience. Convenience... also it doesn't help that Meta advertising is f**king EVERYWHERE...
Among the people I know, lots of artists and photographers use IG, and Threads is an easy adjunct to that. If a good non-Meta, non-evil alternative to IG takes off, I’m hoping they’ll jump ship and combine that with BlueSky.
27 million bluesky users vs. 275 million threads users. People want to interact with friends and like minded people, and threads just has more of that.
I never made a threads but I know from other people who made it and then tried to delete it. It connects to your Instagram and basically it’s a package deal now you can’t delete threads without deleting your insta so most people said fuck it and just kept it even tho they didn’t want it
For content creators/influencers threads pays more than any other app. Mercury Stardust says she makes $5k/month over there on posts alone. It’s a sliding scale based on follower numbers she said.
Also I want to be clear for anyone else that wants to be weird on this post: I am not pro meta. I am or have already deleted my meta apps and shut down my accounts. The fact that they are being weird about money should be a RED FLAG to all of you.
Something about threads has always sat wrong with me since it was announced. And now I understand it. No one throws around that much money for ad revenue alone, there is something else going on over there. Most likely related to the algorithm training imo.
My guess is it's also about market share. If they control it, they can control the narrative, so they probably have more vested interests in getting the CC they want on there now.
When they get what they want, they'll turn off the money faucet, like every other service.
Agreed. The faucet will eventually be turned off no matter what the reason is. It will likely come with little to no warning as well since the nature of how it was described sounds like the terms can change on a whim.
I'm on both bc I've got work to promote & different audiences on the apps. Neither UI/UX is perfect & I'm hoping Zuck's tomfoolery will push more folks over here so they continue investing in it here.

It's also not fun talking in to the void and feeling alone in doing so.
...bc change is scary
...bc change takes effort
