The "Hot Honey Rag" was written by dance arranger Peter Howard using John Kander's melody for "Funny Honey," played here by Mr. Howard himself.

The Hot Honey Rag—listed in the original playbill as "Keep It Hot"—replaced "Loopin' the Loop," which was cut after the tryout.

However, "Loopin'" is still heard in Chicago as the melody for its overture.

I’m really glad it’s still in the overture. Although it does serve to underscore that “Rich and Happy” could still be in the Merrily overture 😬

The deletion of “Rich and Happy” really hurts the Merrily overture. Another example of ignoring a cut: “Misery” (aka “Mis’ry’s Comin’ Around”), deleted from Show Boat in DC, is quite prominent in the overture, almost to the point of being the theme of it.
