I am white. Like spf 150 I'm March white. So I can say this... The way myself and other white people I know make mac and cheese is not Thanksgiving table worthy
I never heard of Mac and cheese as a Thanksgiving side until I started having thanksgiving with a black family. Now I can't imagine Thanksgiving without it.
I don’t keep strict kashrut (Reform Jew so I keep a revised type of kosher) but I thought the mixing dairy and meat applied to only beef (since milk doesn’t come from turkeys thus it wouldn’t violate the whole “boiling a calf in its mothers milk” thing). I didn’t realize it extended to fowl as well
Yep, it was extended to fowl a LOOOOONG time ago because people were getting confused about whether fowl was "meat" and assuming whatever they could do with fowl they could do with, for example, venison
(as a technical matter of biblical law, "meat" covers animals kosher because of "split hooves + chewing cud"; extension to fowl is a rabbinic prohibition)
Screw that noise, it is and it's also a Christmas side. I should know, I'm making it for our family get together. If they don't like it they can go... not eat mac n cheese? Wow. That's just too harsh.
They can go eat mac n cheese as a meal! Wait, that's not harsh at all.
It’s part of my plate! I went over to my partners parents for TG one year and her parents were besides themselves that I brought Mac and cheese. In my defense, they’re a few notches up the socio-economic totem.
Listen, that's only because most of us only know Kraft. The only ones who say it doesn't belong on the table have only ever had Kraft, and they're sadly unenlightened
My asshole family that voted for trump are such traditionalists lol they won’t come now, and I didn’t even have to tell them they weren’t invited anyhow😂
And this is a true story!
What?? It's 100% a side.
When we have a BIG family Thanksgiving it's:
- Turkey, ham, and faux turkey for me 😇
- stuffing and dressing
- mashed potatoes, gravy
- sweet potatoes w marshmallows
- baked mac n cheese
- collard greens
- green beans
- biscuits
& Like 5+ desserts
🤤

Anyone wanna fight me?
My Grandma m raised me correctly
Is my family one of the few that have that shit as a must have every thanksgiving?
It’s a side for us and Thanksgiving. But my family is white and Mexican, and I feel like the Mexican does a lot of heavy lifting.
This year I’m the one bringing it. And yes, I understand how serious this is.
Then again, not from US

Kinda at a loss. OH WELL!
