None of my favorites are really 'one-sitting' games. Closest I get is Bejeweled 3, still pissed PopCap hasn't ported Bejeweled Stars or made a different sequel for PC.
I really like short games. Something indie, short & sweet. For some reasson, they have much more of an affect than games that take tens or even hundreds of hours to complete. Maybe it's just because I really don't like grinding, but I love short stories in the form of a game.
any service game cannot be "completed fast" even if you throw money at it (including Gacha games like WF, where even buying a truckload of prime is not really P2W)
the goal is keep you around for as long as possible - not empty your wallet in one go and you getting buyers remorse
I don't think I understand the "finish on 24h" thing
Warframe gates a lot behind rank which you can't buy directly (you can only speed it up 2x or so), so getting to endgame quests will take you weeks of normal play and that's by design
When you craft stuff it usually has a 24 or 72 hour time, which you can pay to "rush" and complete instantly
Rank is gated behind these crafts, though there is (was?) a nice interplay between farm and craft in normal play, you can have months of smooth cycling between the two
And all Asian gacha games gate level gain behind the stamina system you also can't really buy in significant quantities...
if we measure progression in terms combat endgame, Genshin's Abyss can be completed I think in around 48 hours (2-3 people doing highly optimized playthrough on shifts)
But not when they cost a fortune and then it's over with in no time. THAT'S what I hate. There's nothing more depressing than paying 30 and 40 dollars for a game that's only a few hours long. 😞
I reckon "a sitting" usually goes up to like.. 6 hours. But for anyone whose played a decent amount of WoW, we all know "a sitting" can be like.. 36 hours. I think my happy medium for a sitting is like 12 hours max.
God, WoW was definitely the stinkiest of all times for me. Dropped out of college (equivalent to the last 2 years of high school here in the UK,) after several really hard years, would just sit there in my underwear playing 36 hour stretches during WOTLK. What a time.
It was definitely not a good time for me at all. Sure, part of it was due to poor decisions and even worse will power. But damn, WoW was a hell of a drug. And I played it for 10 years!
It wasn't a good time for me either, but WoW helped get me through it so despite the grease I look back on those times with very fond memories honestly!
I personally love games that are shorter because I rarely finish games that require 20+ hours of gameplay. I get overwhelmed, bored, or burnt out and never pick it up again.
I also heard this game called Minit was pretty good. I mean, it only lasts a minit, but it's the best minit of gameplay I ever experienced. I enjoyed every Minit of it.
Shout-out to Pizza Pop. Yeah, it's an okay NES/Famicom game, and only lasts at most 30 minutes, but it's fun to just play it in one go every so often... Along with using the rewind feature because I'm bad at it.
or the opposite. I know more ppl that stop a playthrough of civ when its obvious they already won rather than play an extra 100 turns to actually complete the game. lol
Well my first commercially released game is made to be finished in one setting. Doesn't sell well, maybe I should have asked for help, but I made it all alone so I am proud of it as it is.
Journey is one of my favorite gaming experiences and I think it took me about three hours altogether, don’t feel like a longer runtime would’ve improved it
I don't believe a game which lasts for only ~2 hours (one sitting) is much of a game. It may be a cool demo, but surely it lacks content for a full game.
Do you even play indie games? Visual novels made by normal people, not corporations, are often short but judging them on that would be ridiculous. Making them longer wouldn't make them better (and would make many of them worse). A game should be judged on if it sticks with you after, not length.
I often enjoy short games that are satisfying and only take a few hours. It’s amazing what can be done when you focus on quality over scale **ahem Bethesda**
All the people saying Journey in this thread really need to play Jusant! It's the best Journey-like I think I've ever played and it sold pretty poorly. It was on PC gamepass back when I played it, not sure if it still is but gets a big recommendation from me!
Whether or not you can complete *any* game in one sitting is a simple function of how little sleep you can run on and how much coffee and junk food you have on hand.
🤭🤭 somehow I managed to accidentally steal Astarion's underpants, and found him sneaking out of our camp bareassnekkid. Have you seen the speed runs of it though? Super impressive
I recently beat each of the Donkey Kong Country games for SNES in separate single sessions on stream last month! I enjoyed the length and quality of each one
DKC3 I never played before (past like the first few levels) and I beat that in one stream 2 weeks ago. I think it really depends just on the type of gamer you are and how quickly you can pick up how the gameplay works. Even though I think I’m pretty good I still spent like 25 mins on the final boss
True but it was the only 1 sitting game I could think of off the top of my head. But back in the earlier days... pretty much any game was a 1 sitting game. That was before local storage of course. But people do still play Super Mario bros.
If you enjoy horror, anything published by Torture Star Video. My personal favorite is Bloodwash. It's about 1.5 to 2 hours long and cheaper than a movie ticket.
Any fnaf game, a single deltarune chapter, iron lung, squirrel stapler, stray etc. all have a runtime under 6 hours if you're being quick, obviously they're not meant to be played like that but you can pretty easily without really trying to speedrun them
Mouthwashing is really good too, absolutely loved it and it was about 2 and a half hours, although I played for more just trying to get all the achievements.

The chair after the non-stop 150 houres sitting
just give me something fun doesn't matter the length really. sure I could want more but least it happened.
Warframe cannot be completed in one sitting without paying for it
Even then, completion criteria would need to be determined, and I thnk fraction grinding might actually make it impossible
the goal is keep you around for as long as possible - not empty your wallet in one go and you getting buyers remorse
Though what I was thinking of might also not be relevant: a huge gate to free play is 24 hour and 36 hour "build times"
but you can pay to finish instantly
The rest you could otherwise liken to postgame, because it's self directed completionism
Warframe gates a lot behind rank which you can't buy directly (you can only speed it up 2x or so), so getting to endgame quests will take you weeks of normal play and that's by design
Rank is gated behind these crafts, though there is (was?) a nice interplay between farm and craft in normal play, you can have months of smooth cycling between the two
if we measure progression in terms combat endgame, Genshin's Abyss can be completed I think in around 48 hours (2-3 people doing highly optimized playthrough on shifts)
DO NOT BE FOOLED. YOU CANNOT 100% THEM IN ONE DAY 😭😭😭
(But seriously, thank you for playing all our games to 100% completion - that's amazing 🔥👏👏)
Or any of the first five Mega Man X games.

Thus I also swore off MMOs.
An average skill level player can beat it in around 4 hours without rushing.
Sometimes 80hour long adventures can be a daunting commitment. Especially if ur unsure if the experience is for you.
Quality over Quantity should be appreciated more.
#LetsGetShenmue4
Finished it immediately. Absolutely brilliant!
I also heard this game called Minit was pretty good. I mean, it only lasts a minit, but it's the best minit of gameplay I ever experienced. I enjoyed every Minit of it.
Ok, I'll stop now and actually finish it.

I'm not accusing you of that, that's just a reminder
There's nothing wrong with that.
Name a great game which takes only 2 hours to complete (without speedrunning).
Journey, The Stanley Parable, Five Nights at Freddy’s, A Short Hike, Emily is Away, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Buckshot Roulette, Donut County, The Exit 8
It's just good story telling
You’re 100% right
Either single player short games or multiplayer games that don’t have a real end of any kind
(I recommend the HD pc release if you’ve not played it, the UE4 concept side game is great).
I also recently beat Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy in one sitting too
