Universities have treated the humanities and humanities scholars as disposable for as long as I can remember. It is too bad because in this moment of authoritarian attack on knowledge, teaching, and academic freedom they need us more than ever.

"this moment of authoritarian attack on knowledge, teaching, and academic freedom" - was made possible by the sustained attacks on the Humanities over the past few decades
Picture is a quote from Chomsky… I don’t know what was preventing the humanities academics from creating an intellectual and social culture that could oppose the abuse of state power the last 50yrs. At my uni, students do all the organizing with practically no faculty support.
I was just talking with my favorite PhD student about how sad/funny it has been watching the scientists having the rug pulled out from under them with federal funds going 💨, because the humanities always seems to get by on the dregs and scrapings. (Obv, ALL fields of study should have enough 💰.)
