i think that case was a lot better a year ago when inflation was outrunning wage growth overall. but the but-for world would have people a lot more miserable than the status last year would have them too

in fewer than 2 years unemployment was back below 4% from the onset of covid. inflation outpaced wages by about 3% for a year and has come back down - and most of the inflation was out of the hands of the government

There is also a large problem with a building code that has become gold plated and has brought up construction costs to the point where affordable housing is impossible.
"do what the medical folks tell you to do, print up a bunch of money and give it to people in the meantime" was an almost universal (and so unheard of) view. economics has many things to apologize for but this ain't one of them
