A word of warning for UK readers. The main ingredient of syrnyky is tvorok, which gets translated as cottage cheese. It is not! It is curd cheese, which is not sold as such in the UK anymore. You need to look in Polish shops for 'twarog', and in tiny letters, they give a translation- curd dheese.
That looks so delicious! Iβm on a worried-about-money-while-needing-groceries diet and I keep dreaming of real food. My dinner tonight will be a small piece of pumpernickel with cream cheese.
Not a lot. But interesting thing about Ukraine is our people, especially older generations, takes religious fasting seriously. They replaced meat in usual recipes for beans or mushrooms. My grandma, for example, used to make traditional borscht without meat but with lots of kidney beans.
