He said that using the word Genocide takes away devalues the word. I get what he means. If we are going to call every war that results in war crimes, and very high collateral damage genocide, most wars would fall into that category. Including many our fathers and grandfathers served in.

To establish genocide there must be “dolus specialis” i.e a deliberate aim to eliminate the targeted group rather than merely displace or harm its members. Thousands of casualties, and the hyperbolic statements of a counties leaders are not enough.

800,000 Tutsis were killed in the Rwandan Genocide , and 6 million Jews were systematically “put down” by Nazis, for no other reason than religion or tribe. There have undoubtedly been war crimes, but most Palestinians died because they were caught up in a brutal war.

War crimes & political rhetoric. There is no denying Israel’s tactics at brutal, but Israel has killed 50,000 people in a year with bunker busters, & the Houthis killed 800,000 in 100 days with small arms & machetes, so if the intention is to kill every Palestinian they are doing a really bad job.

I am struggling to think of a war where women, & children weren’t murdered & raped by soldiers. 2 million women (including Holocaust survivors) were raped by Russian soldiers as they liberated Europe, I am not minimising it, because war is barbaric, but it’s the reality. The Falklands possibly.

She is right Genocide is not a matter of opinion, but that doesn’t stop her offering hers. The fact that much of Gaza is destroyed & 10% of the population are dead, does not equal genocide. There has to be an intention to eliminate a population. Her claim that 1 death can be genocide is comical.
