We need to get money out of politics. I don’t see this happening because greed runs amok in our govt’s and someone is always willing to bribe (oops, lobby) to get their way.

Use ours from Oz.
You rank all candidates in order of preference (least objectionability).
After first count the one with the least votes is ejected and their 2nd prefs assigned.
Rinse & repeat until someone gets more that 50%.
No guarantee of electing a good one, but at least one most can stand...

I’ve always been a fan of PR but now find myself resisting change to ensure we don’t end up with Reform and Farage in charge.

My gut still says we should change, but I’d worry for sure ………

One would have thought that Labour might have grasped the major downside of FPTP when they were absolutely walloped in Scotland in 2015 despite coming second. The SNP got 50% of the vote, Labour 24.3%, Tories 14.9% and Lib Dems 7.6% – which translated into 56 SNP seats and one each for the others.

We do Harry but …Without reform of the press, think tanks and social media it’s pointless, it opens the gates for cunts like Farage. They go hand in hand. We need to look at the threats to our democracy and treat them as security risks.

Money manipulates democracy. Party funding, privately owned media, electoral systems, foreign interference, think tanks, social media… they all need reform, new legislation and to be forced to toe the line if they want to operate in our democracy. Arresting the actors and Leveson 2 would be helpful.

Unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future - Britain is tied to traditions even when said traditions no longer serve a purpose and may in fact pose a detriment. This will be one of those institutions that will continue even when it has been dead a buried.
