What sort of practical advice do u have to avoid design fall pits that inexperienced might get trap in to?

There a many advices but an important one would be, try to figure out a process and pipeline that supports your vision, where you can iterate quickly. Knowing how to get to a good design quickly really helps, specially when you have a tight deadline.
Do u try to avoid upgrading your main 3d programs or is your process stable enough that is not something you need to be concerned about at all?
