This is exactly the graph I use for ideal difficulty ramping in single player games as well. But from my POV it’s how to provide the right amount of challenge to foster skill growth.
I took a break of more than a decade, some skills got rusty, but other things like being able to reason and learn actually got better, all you have to do is find the time to just make art instead of worry and you'll pick it back up in no time
Time to shake it up then, maybe swap medium, or get yourself some studies to play with instead of big projects etc.
I don’t know your situation, but you’re probably in a better place than you think you are, so give yourself some options to enjoy the process/results if you can ❤️
THE GRAPH!! This thing singlehandedly fixed so much of my mental health istg. The grace and patience I can show myself during 'art lows' now because of this one image. Iconic. 👏
Okay but what if your OCD has you feeling like it’s always at the low? I hate my art so much, and I’ve felt this way for like two years. Very few pieces have made me feel proud. 🙃🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂🙃
It is a great perspective to show aspiring creators of any field. Training your eye is just as important as your practical skill. So when I notice my flaws I don't get upset I see it as more rungs climbed for my skills.
I stopped drawing for 7 years because I couldn’t handle the trough. I reframed it for myself as drawing is a series of mistakes and choices and you gotta get comfortable with getting it wrong, and trying again. And also moving on to the next drawing!
Yeah, I stopped drawing for years for similar reasons, I picked it back up (mostly) and now my brain is much better at pushing aside my ego (among other things).
Now I'm making much better progress and having fun without the need for perfectionism and whatnot!
