John was in Dr. Barbara Sorg’s lab at WSU investigating the role of perineuronal nets, a structure surrounding neurons, in memory and cocaine-relapse behavior.
On the left, image of stained perineuronal net structures in blue ( part of the extra cellular matrix in the brain). Not part of the neuron, but in adults these netted structures surround neurons.
