This is not about banning Tik Tok, it's about ensuring the Chinese government cannot access Tik Tok customer data or influence content (see Romania).

There is nothing keeping Tik Tok from being spun off except the Chinese government - retain ownership of profit streams but not control of site.

I would say at the core this is about manipulation. TikTok has an algorithm that on its face seems to push misinformation and very erroneous reports on events screwing people perception of events. There is also a real threat that this is being used by foreign governments to manipulate US citizens
