I would think it has more to do with the current administration’s desire to disappear random people who enter the country rather than political relationships deteriorating
Not arguing that, just think that people aren’t canceling their plans solely because America is being a dick but more so because America is being psychotic
Canadians no longer feel safe traveling to the USA, so this is no surprise. In fact most of the world is waking up to the realization that the USA is not the welcoming country that it once was.
Unfortunately for us we were going to drive our convertible Mustang to Seattle and take a ferry to Vancouver. I don’t think we would be safe with Oregon plates on the car.
Anecdotally, I think you would have been fine. I was in Canada for the Four Nations games and while there was booing of the national anthem, no vitriol was directed at me as an American. But I understand the caution on your part.
Get an "Impeach Elon" or similar bumper sticker and it should be OK. If you get a magnetic one, you can remove it so you're safe in rural Washington and Oregon.
"amid deteriorating relations" == "since Trump repeatedly threatened to annex Canada, repeatedly insulted the Canadian Prime Minister, and violated international trade agreements to launch an economic attack on Canada based on easily-disproven lies"
That’s a good idea, our neighbors to the north and south, as well as the rest of the world, should boycott the U.S. Hitting us in the economy is the best way to send a message.
Americans need to do the same. Boycott everything, stop consuming, and stop spending as much as possible. Every penny saved helps... Stuff it under the mattress or keep it in a savings account. This is the only nonviolent protest that can't be ignored and can't be stopped.

Out here in the border states we are taking that as an open threat of war
