Users in the test group are unimpressed by the video ads, which play automatically. Customers say they will be eager to toss their Roku devices if the ads become permanent.

When we bought a new TV, we never even bothered to set up the WiFi or log into the pre-installed system (in this case, FireTV). We just plugged in our Apple TV and never looked back. If you have a smart tv, disable that shit!
It was annoying to see ads on the screensaver. But making us wait to to watch an ad on the homescreen is infuriating. After getting just one of these, I'm planning of ditching the roku entirely at this point.
i will absolutely chuck my roku into the ocean if this comes up. I just needed a device to run app/services that I already pay for. It's tremendously unethcial to continue to put ads into it after purchase.
AppleTV already does this unless you disable the appletv app. Unless I’m missing how much of a cardinal sin Roku broke here. No firmware tied ads, but FireTV levels of ad on boot.
It always makes me laugh when companies test something like increased ads or whatever that will obviously make the experience worse for the customer. No one is going to say, you know what...I like wasting my time with more bullshit after a long day of dealing with bullshit.
You can clear your network info from your Roku settings. Only drawback is that this makes the LED flash constantly while it tries and fails to make a connection

Samsung tv have a large ad banner on top of the main menu. So glad I got rid of it
Still considering mailing a bag of my own feces to Roku HQ.
I will not pay 2-3x for a streamed show. First, the monthly subscription, then the upgrade for no/fewer ads, then with my time with forced ads.
I HATE it.
