i used to keep cardboard boxes until my dad convinced me to stop, so instead of letting them pile, i just cut them apart to eventually use them for future crafts. i paint on them sometimes, use them for sewing templates, etc.

If it's not something new she just bought on a whim, it's an old something that gets shoved in a corner and never touched again. We have boxes full of stuff piled up on the kitchen table 😑 I bet you we could clear half our house if we actually took the time to go through everything

See, when we have people over, she'll remove the stuff from the table and the one extra chair she also puts stuff on, put it in another room, and then once they're gone, SHE PUTS THEM RIGHT BACK

I used to do this, and sometimes still get the urge to. Have to think to myself “what will I realistically use this for that isn’t just an abstract possibility?” And if I don’t have a good answer I get rid of it

My grandparents were born during the Great Depression, so they have some trauma about throwing away anything that can be reused. And they passed it down to their kids, who passed it down again...

Your grandmother probably lived thru the after effects of the depression and then WW2.

During that time, resources were scarce, and probably why she saves things you see as garbage.

If it's anything like the plastic lunch meat containers, they're great for storing leftovers and such, but I don't hoard them, and I wouldnt microwave food in them either. If they break, get stained, or don't have the matching lid it gets tossed 😂

I don’t know them. I’m that person xD.

I save singly serve yoghurt containers to make single serve snack packs, and salsa jars to make pickles and store dry goods. I also save boxes and reuse them for recycling boxes. Does that count? XP

I myself keep it if I can THINK of a use. Everything I’ve “kept for the future” has actually been used already.
Usually I’m just repairing electronics… even then… TV dinner bowls? I don’t know what she wants to do with them, but I love her spirit.
… unfortunate you have to deal with 100 bowls though

My grandma really likes to buy tons of crap, but it's mostly stuff that isn't completely useless, such as clothing, but I'm sure the grandparents' place has some storage rooms filled with things that haven't been used in many, many years, if ever...
