The 1403 attack, was led by Sieur de Chastel, with 30 ships & 1,200 men.
Unable to attack #SuttonHarbour due to the defences, they landed on the beaches below Cattedown. Attacking Plymouth from the east, they burnt all the houses outside Martin’s Gate.

Really former pre-1893 entrances to houses. The houses once adjoined the 14th Century #medieval town wall & Martin’s Gate, which withstood the 1403 Breton raid.
