You are correct, SS at the Direction of DOGE, after the lash back & exposure they settled on canceling calls for direct deposit, this still doesn’t help elderly or disabled that are unable to use computers &/or no longer will have access to an in person facility. This too needs to be challenged.

They are shutting down the phone lines, telling people they will have to go in person to field offices, while they are also closing field offices. Which means there will be no way to do a lot of things. Use the online services, if you have internet- except this will also crash.

My husband applied for SSD and SSI by phone from a rehab center after a spinal cord injury. Nicest woman took his info and acted like she really cared.

Thankfully, the rehab worked and he returned to the job, which keeps his cancer patient wife in health insurance.

It already takes at least an hour to get someone to answer. Sometimes there are issues that need responses. And I couldn't go in because of the reasons I was going on disability. It takes years for most claims already which many disabled people cannot afford. This administration wants to us to die.

My 85 yo mother was on hold for an hour before they lost or disconnected the call. The local office is no longer making in-person appointments. They said a decision would be made on a spousal benefits claim within a month. It’s been nearly two. #Grassley & #Ernst & #Feenstra are useless.
