three years after 9/11 shit was not "normal", OP was just too young then to realize it. If you're growing up with it, it's by definition "normal" to you. I'm terrified trying to imagine what kids growing up today will be nostalgic for in 20 years. My money is on "wild fish" and "nice weather".
