I discussed with a fellow Godot game dev and they were shocked when they learned I document and test my code lol. I guess it's not common practice on hobby projects ?

Document: No, it's not at all. Documentation is usually presented (and taught) as a team-based tool. Until the dev team passes 3, most hobbyists avoid it.
Test: No, hobbyists rarely encounter any concise, reusable examples of testing procedures they can bring to their projects or reasons to do so.
Keep in mind that many hobbyist programmers may become subject matter experts, but never pass formally learning more than intermediate programming techniques except as needed and software engineering principles are often not really introduced til intermediate or beyond to avoid bogging things down.
