I think the whole "Gulf of America" thing is ridiculous (because, duh, it is), but countries have had names for things that aren't the same as others' names for those same things forever. Germans call their homeland 𝘋𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, for instance, while most other countries don't call it that...1/2
