I suppose there are people dumb enough to think that's an option. Organized resistance would be over in less than a week. Some elected officials would flee to Europe to establish a government in exile and then an insurgency would begin.
I’d have been one but I am way too old for them. However I would certainly check again if that moment arrives to see if they need volunteers in any capacity. Otherwise I go insurgent.

Combat has changed, as much behind a desk as front lines with guns with advent of longer missiles, drones, cyber incursions, spycraft & other disrupted, so still need infantry in fighting form, but other jobs have changed. My partner early 50s, more fit than some 20 yrs his junior on his naval ship
Yeah, all my Canadian Armed Forces recruitment ads are specifically targeted to ask if I want to become a submarine engineer. There’s a lot of roles that can use people with other life experience
My spouses job has changed over past 3 decades in navy, from bosun to tech, he's been at the school, admin, tech support, rescued ships, tracked inventory, fought pirates, been around world, lots of exciting jobs, & a few desk ones
