I just forced myself thru like 40 hours of AC: Valhalla and the entire time I kept thinking about Witcher 3... was it really 10x better than what I was playing or were those just fond memories.

The game does a pretty solid job of bringing you up to speed of the important stuff. It’s the third in a game series that are also a (very loose) follow up to a Polish novel series (worth reading btw) but the game gives you what you need to know and has a good lore encyclopedia (I think IIRC).

i love walking about talking to folk, using jedi mind trick, money or intimidation to get out of things but when it comes to needing to do sword play it falls down a bit for me, cyberpunk just plays better for me

My main gripe about the combat is that the tutorial is just "this is how you block and parry" and then the game throws a bunch of drowners at you that will kill you if you try to block and parry them.

Shout-out to that one Fyke Isle quest with the Peller where you get swarmed by monsters you can't block (that quest is not actually suitable for lvl7 characters holy shit).

I feel like ubisoft open world games have severely damaged the public perception and reputation of open world games for many people, or they have for me at least. Luckily, games like Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, and Witcher 3 show that the damage isn't irreparable.

Cyberpunk? Better?!? That's madness talking! Witcher3 does everything better IMO:

- 3rd person
- Side quests are organically discovered
- Main character isn't a boring block of wood

IMO for an Open World game it does. You can see more of the world and, in particular, if you're allowed to customise your character extensively you can actually see the clothes/body mods etc you have.

Going into buildings in first person and seeing the level on detail is so much more immersive in a first person game though, I love both but I feel like people are shifting away from first person games which sucks

Customisation is a big pro for third person though!

I say this knowing it’s not some people’s preference. But V is more of an insert character that gets more out of what you put into them and how you play. There’s dialogue options you can guide things how you want, and literally how you plan can define them.

The game gives you a lot of “what” you can do with V, and you the player can decide the “why” of a lot of it, using what they give you as a framework.
