Given the rise of Measles (an airborne virus) outbreaks in Canada we should absolutely have N95 mask requirements in schools. This isn't even extreme. Not doing so is extreme at this point

Pediatrician and pro vaccine but the answer to this problem is a safe, 97% effective vaccine rather than masks. Fortunately, we already have that for the measles infection!
97% is the effectiveness of the vaccine for the individual (not the rate of vaccination in the population). If your child is vaccinated, their risk of catching measles is exceedingly low.
Herd immunity is achievable when 95% of the population is successfully protected by previous infection or vaccination against a given virus. Without herd immunity the rates of infection for non-vaccinated individuals catch to spread the disease is greatly increased
We're in the middle of an outbreak of measles, this is exactly the time to use respirators. Suggesting people do the thing they aren't doing isn't going to help unless its enforced in some fashion. Public health is a joke at this point.
I had measles when I was four, underfed and underweight. I heard the men in the next room wondering if I would fit in a baby sized coffin. No child needs to go through that.
Maybe, if someone gets a vaccine and waits 2 weeks, or whatever is the maximum wait time, they can unmask? That might even get those who are reluctant to get the vaccine to comply? Me & my spouse vaccinated anyway due to health issues, but the more vaccinated, the better.

*no point in calling it common anymore.
