If you use Ubuntu LTS only, Debian is a good choice for basically being the same thing but not having any of the canonical stuff in it.
Otherwise, just use fedora, it's probably the best distro out there. (I am a debian user, personally)

Thanks for the tip. I am thinking of server side stuff. I think I will be using CentOS/AlmaLinux for that.

I switched from Ubuntu to Manjaro about two years ago. I was enjoying the rolling updates, but recently I started experiencing problems. I just made the move to Fedora, and I like what I see so far.
