Its a good idea. We've done that. My partner and kids are eligible for Polish citizenship, I'm not but might have luck getting a work visa if all of them get in and we actually have to move.

That said, I work in Patent law, so my livelihood is tied to the US :(.

I'm absolutely not going to paint the inclination as paranoid, but I'm going to one-up the paranoia and ask where in the world right now is actually safe from growing fascist movements? If you find a safe harbour, by all means. I don't have kids so I'll be the sort to stay and fight no matter what

That's a very fair point, and it probably comes down to damage mitigation - where are they resisting well?

But honestly, being Jewish and trans is a double whammy if fascism takes hold here.

Right now, hoping the Nordics might be safer, maybe?

Mayhaps. Since I don't have dependents or visible areas of oppression (aside from being a cis woman and clocked easily as unstraight), I think my role is best played here. But looking globally I hope there's some safe haven. Because shit's looking rough most places. We're in the stupidest timeline.

I've looked into this and determined that my Polish & German timelines need to swap to easily qualify for either 😭

I found a potential way to do it w/ my German side but have concern (based on other stories) that it could fuck up a parents SS payments & possibly their citizenship.. 💀 can o' worms

And my partner is just fucked on alternative options since they're adopted & bio fam is a mix of long-time homesteaders and Native American.

But I did see an article that Ireland granted citizenship to an adoptee who's DNA result showed 100% Irish. So maybe a few more lucky folks are out there...?

And last note... if it's not obvious, I don't think any of this is "too much" and better safe than sorry.

A trans teammate of mine actually started this process during round 1 of Trump bc how shitty everything was going. She's now happily living in Scotland, and I'm a bit jealous, ngl.
