It's had me thinking about this article. The math had it as a direct hit, inside of a year, for WEEKS after they discovered it. They didn't inform the public until AFTER they knew it would miss...

Makes me wonder how many higher risk asteroids they just never reveal. 🙄

NRO and Nazi connections?

I just notice that (at least prior to creation of Space Force) NRO/NGA appear staffed, when from current/former mil, from USAF almost exclusively. NRO/NGA being basically CIA satellite agencies pertaining to, uh, satellites.

Hubble came directly from the KH-11 Kennen, both from Lockheed. Even had to manage some of the same quirks that couldn't be declassified into the civilian program. Dwayne Day often writes at https://thespacereview.com about that history of the spy program.
