I am strongly in favour of moving on. I left a lengthy comment under the video which is too long to repost here, so if you want to know why, check it out there.
I honestly don't want to see Shepard return. In a franchise where the story is supposed to be such a big focus, it would just seem very cheap to bring Shepard back, especially after that huge sacrifice they ended with.
Also, I really liked Ryder and wouldn't mind seeing an Andromeda 2. MEA had A LOT of issues, there's no denying that, but the overall premise and some of the characters were really good, imo. Also, I wanna see more of my Ryder with Jaal (and his cute butt). π
To me, MEAβs story choices and consequences were so wildly disconnected that it took away from what Andromeda was actually supposed to be. Like how in ME2 you actually had to care about the people around to make it work. MEA seems to start on that train, and then abandon it completely at stop 1 π
You really did Shep justice in this video, Kala. THANK YOU! For me it's simple, Shep was in the first 3 games as a critical character. Though I'm open to Shep having an active secondary role, it would not feel like Mass Effect without them. I would really love to have them be the protag again tho.
It's very difficult for me to let Shep go. She became someone very important to me. But if she has to be let go, I HOPE that Liara carries her memories with Shep in whatever role she has in 5 (hoping she has an important one, if any...)
I'm replaying ME3 right now (15th trilogy playthrough), and I love it. But, honestly, enough now, we need to just let Shepard go and MOVE ON. We need to stop clinging to the past, and let the devs and writers create their own stories without their hands tied behind their backs to satisfy our needs.
I think it's the reason why we see SO MANY "remasters" - in films, games, series, etc, etc, etc. Just leave it be. Give NEW writers/devs/stories a chance!
If Mass Effect 5 had a subplot/theme about letting go and looking forward, I will probably cry my eyes out. Honestly, Iβll probably choke up from any mention of Shepard and the old team.
Andromeda was the spinoff. They have every option to continue that, but nobody wants it. Fortunately, they FUCKING FIXED Mass Effect 3 story wise in the Legendary Edition. I donβt think they would have changed ME3 to have her live in the end if they didnβt want to bring her back.
Like, Dragon Age has a different protag each game, lemme see some more stories from other perspectives. I feel like I'm the only person who actually liked Andromeda, it was a fresh take!
