In Florida, I was always gauging reactions when I'd mention "my wife" to people I didn't know. I was on the ready if it went sideways.

Here in Chicago, there's none of that. I get open, accepting responses. "Oh, what does your wife do?" "Do you and your wife like it here?"

Such a nice change.
