BC new health minister @josieosborne.bsky.social said in a statement to Filter that plans are under way to finalize minimum service standards for OPS's before they'll be sanctioned.

She did not specify what those standards are or who's working on them. Hospital OPS exists at St. Paul's in Vancouver

Health ministry pointed to existing addiction teams in hospitals, but Dr. Jessica Wilder, lead physician of the team in Nanaimo, co-founded hospital OPS initiative on Vancouver Island, after @vanislandhealth.bsky.social's own plans (developed from Sept -April last yr) were scrapped by province.

The need for hospital-based OPS's in light of toxic drug deaths & overdoses at hospitals is known by patients, doctors, nurses (statement attached).

“The [provincial] government is where the problem lies, and Island Health will do as the government dictates," said Dr. Eva Hemmerich, Comox doc.

Meanwhile, healthcare & harm reduction workers in cities across Canada, as far east as Newfoundland, are talking to Island doctors to learn about their initiative and potentially replicate the model.
