I taught myself with books. Now you can find tutorials on YouTube, which I love, because you can slow down the video speed. Pinterest has tutorials and free patterns.
The foundation crochet tutorials are great for beginners to learn, instead of learning to chain first and then sc into those tight chain stitches. How to read a pattern & symbols is good too.
I've been told cheap, decent sized yarn, & starting with the little potholder squares.
This is how my fairy godmother taught me & it was fairly easy to learn. Then you go from there w/ harder patterns.
There's A TON of YouTube videos that are helpful, & Michael's offers classes sometimes as well
I started with bigger yarn thinking it would be easier, it’s much harder on my hands than I anticipated. I suggest finding an item you want to make first that’s fairly simple and a yarn that’s comfortable. Once you get going it’s really addictive 😊
