My favourite thing about US politics is when they interview a nominee, quickly find out said nominee is an unqualified mass of worms in a suit, and then approve them anyway because they have the right colour tie on.

I’ve seen that analogy used elsewhere and it’s very apt. Those outside the US feel like people trying to get into the locked room this is happening in to help you out, but there are bars on all the non-bulletproof windows.
Thankfully* some here in the states are a bit more diligent in our research on politicians, what sucks is that the majority of us aren’t (and are moronically proud of it), primarily because we aren’t taught to be so.
I would prefer the Republicans confirm someone over a tie color than because they want to please their fascist leader, the unelected billionaire president, and their MAGA/white supremacist base.
It’s especially crushing when just a few nights ago I was on a telephone town hall with my congressional rep — who also happens to be a pediatrician — being so upfront about what a horrifyingly terrible choice this guy is.
It wasn't his tie. It was his ties--to money and power. I now live in a country that is about to abolish every major program that helps people. It will impact all of us.
This isn't by mistake. In this administration the "finding out" part comes well before they're even nominated. The goal is to appoint the least qualified people imaginable.
Yes I know. I just love the bit where the entire country watches and learns how unqualified they are before they even start. It’s like the opening of a Final Destination movie, except no one stops them all from getting killed. 🙃

Feeling that deep sigh 😮💨
And yet. Here we are.
I need a hug.
