1. dragon quest builders 2: look if you ever played minecraft and went "i wish this had more structure. like a plot." then this game may be for you. i don't have that problem but i'm endlessly charmed by the story and malroth and the tiny food furniture and the outfits
like it is both good as a minecraft type game and a charming mid-length action jrpg. genuinely best of both worlds, has so much heart, exploration of the hand crafted maps was a treat, seeing user generated photos of players marrying malroth on every loading screen never gets old, etc.
2. tales of berseria
im slowly working my way through a lot of the tales series and berseria is the one that i liked best gameplay wise, character wise, and story wise. i still think vesperia has the best party dynamic but velvet crowe skyrocketed to top ten favourite characters for me easily
a recent addition. i was interested in the spooky 90s anime look, nobody told me it had yuri? for some reason i thought it had farming, so i was shocked (but not disappointed) to find an rpgmaker inspired horror with romance and clear madoka influences
4. Minecraft
fuck it. ive played this game for like 10k+ hours in my life. at this point to me its more a third space and artistic tool, it's a great comfort and has been with me for a decade+ now. i've never had problems with running out of stuff to do because there's always more to make.
recently i've been taking my skills as a builder more seriously and striving to improve, something i know i'm doing in tandem with a lot of the most talented people in the building sphere. you could write whole essays on how minecraft as an artistic tool has evolved with its audience.
