animation is unrealized in its potential to craft extremely deliberate compositions because literally everything you see on screen can be controlled and manipulated by the artist. it makes the live action shots look so half-assed by comparison 💀

like why is there so much noise in the background for the live action? the original is so well focused and has this beautiful pink-tinged lighting meanwhile they’ve just made everything grayer and added an ugly rimlight in live action
and it’s such a minor thing in the original shot but becomes blatant when compared to the live action, but the green moss + green eye makes the shot much more cohesive and adds contrast vs the random wood chips they have in live action. not to mention his pupil not being slitted for some reason?
toothless’s eyes are such a great visual representation we get in the og movie of his wild nature and how he gradually becomes less guarded around hiccup, feels like they just defaulted to the round pupils bc it was cuter regardless of how little sense it makes for them to be like that in this scene
“you’re just being nitpicky” i am because whats the point in going to see a version of movie that already exists except now there’s much less care put into the details and visuals???
httyd has been an old special interest of mine since middle school and i can not express how /uninterested/ i am in this movie. it just looks Bad. i wish it looked better so i could actually be excited about it.
