I've seen several references to research that suggests that there's a correlation netween living over 80 and having lots of connections with people but some of my happier periods were with very limited contact.
I spend as little time with other people as I possibly can. I also appear to be the only one that isn't a mental wreck out of everyone that I do have to interact with (at work).
While I'm introverted and lately rather people-avoidant ... Not sure I'm looking forward to the prospect.
Also, weirdly enough, it was having flatmates that kept bits of my sanity during lockdowns.
Yes, I do understand. Actually, I'd miss people if I didn't have any about. It's just I live my life with far too much contact. And can't step down due to parental role. I so, so crave solitude. π
Oh yes, we definitely need that cosy corner to crawl into for a moment of peace and recovery. Ideally with a warm mug of tea and a pile of plushies to hide among.
Awww
We all could use such a corner at some moments. I'd even have the advantage of "blending in" :p
Oh well, while I can't have such a place yet, for now I got the big woof plushie to give me some comfort when the world feels overwhelming.
This reminds me of the exchange in the movie "Barfly," where Mickey Rourke is playing Charles Bukowski, and talking with Faye Dunaway at, well, the bar:
Dunaway: "I hate people. Do you hate people?"
Rourke: "Not really.... but I seem to feel better when they're not around."
