Madam C.J. Walker rose from poverty to become the first woman self-made millionaire. In 1905, she launched her own line of hair products and straighteners for Women of Color, “Madam Walker’s Wonderful Hair Grower.” Active in the anti-lynching movement, she left the bulk of her estate to charity.
