Well, yes. And to be fair, regardless of the quality of the games, selling an expensive add-on for a console that was in its twilight years to play a handful of games was quite a bold move from Sega.
At least Nintendo didn't require you to buy any extra stuff to play Super FX games.

Alot of rivalry after SoA managed to make SoJ look bad by making the Genesis so successful when they couldn't.
