Oh Lauren, bless your heart. As a constituent, the plot twists in your press releases are edging out my favorite Regency romances. Let’s clear this up...see thread.

Let’s keep our state’s conversations grounded in the facts—and maybe a bit of witty banter. Because the only time I like my drama turned up to eleven is when there’s a dragon battle in my latest fantasy read, not in our local governance.
There’s also a big difference between not volunteering information to ICE without a warrant & actively obstructing federal agents. It’s about protecting the city’s limited resources and maintaining constitutionally protected civil liberties.
Local Control: Mayor Johnston’s support for Denver’s ordinance is hardly a neon sign inviting “dangerous gang members” to set up shop. It’s part of a broader approach to build trust. If people fear deportation just for reporting a crime, guess what—crimes go unreported and criminals roam free.
Funding Fables: Denver isn’t funneling “millions of taxpayer dollars” away to “ship people out.” The city provides emergency assistance to newcomers—some of whom are fleeing hardship. It’s about mitigating a humanitarian crisis, not sneakily passing the buck.
Crime Rates: Despite the melodramatic spin, there’s no solid evidence ‘sanctuary policies’ are fueling crime. Data shows crime trends are shaped by lots of factors—housing stability, economic opportunity, local policing strategies—not whether the city in question cooperates with ICE at every turn.
