Both follow the Gutenberg-Richter (logarithmic) trend, but the "volcano-tectonic" quakes tend to have a steeper slope (Zoback et al, 2013).

The picture shows the distribution for both a volcanic (Grindavik, 2023) swarm and a tectonic sequence (Tyrnavos, 2021) . (2/6)

The slope or ("b-value") for these two is similar. The Santorini quake distribution made a remarkle shift between January and February 2024, but no clear slope can't be established yet. It is worth to consider the interpretation of the Tyrnavos earthquake sequence by Mouslopoulou et al. (3/6)
