The big consumer argument against nationalisation is always oh, but there’s no consumer choice, there’s no market competition: but what am I supposed to do in this scenario to opt out from Thames Water? Dig a well in my back garden?

Even if you somehow found some way to gather water under your own power, you're not legally allowed to disconnect your residence from your water provider. You can't even opt out by choosing nothing. Total scam.
So right now they’re putting my bill up by more than £200 a year and still — as far as I can tell — putting shit in the rivers and sea, and my choice as a consumer is to… continue paying my water bill
It’s appalling. Where is the new infrastructure, essential repairs are left until they’re needed rather than doing them before they’re needed so supply isn’t affected. The whole utilities industry is run for the benefit of shareholders.
