There are a couple of people in my field who are given an incredibly soft ride by like-minded reviewers, as they cite lone studies with skewed samples and cherry picked data nobody else has ever had sight of or properly evaluated, making extravagant theoretical leaps. This needs more scrutiny too.

Absolutely! The term “peer-reviewed” has been watered down so much that it’s effectively meaningless.

I believe we need more eyes on every paper to help bring trust and credibility back to the process and ensure that we can rely on the published literature.

There’s a sociologist who has had to publish two retractions in as many years after being badly caught out, and you really have to wonder what those journals were doing at the earlier peer review stage other than proffering some kind of vague benefaction towards a clique of scholars.

I remember about 20 years ago when conservatives didn't know what "peer reviewed" meant.
