2/2 It’s a culture clash & it was inevitable. The types of dudes Sony have hired to build the biz are excellent at politics and “talk”. Sony like these types of ppl - zero interest in culture, content or audience. They thrive in the corporatised media environment. They talk a good game. 🤷‍♂️

Another issue for CR/Sony is one of leadership. As Sony has rapidly expanded the biz they’ve acquired other anime businesses and teams, and then gutted them. Most senior execs come from other tech/media co’s like Netflix & Amazon. Techbro types. CR isn’t an anime business anymore. 1/2

Crunchyroll is a Silicon Valley tech startup. Why is anyone surprised by how they treat their employees? Sony is on a fast-scaling “25M by 25” mission. The entertainment part of Sony has betted everything on anime. They’re moving fast and breaking things. Mainly people. But! You know! Eggs. 🤷‍♂️

Firstly, it would be FMLA to care for his mother.

It would be ADA for his own diagnosed issues that stemmed from his ailing mother.

I'd live to hear @gregdoucette.bsky.social opinion on whether he has a case.

Shame the company with anime fans that have been in this industry since the early 1990s is struggling, Sentai Filmworks. They started at ADV Films.

Though they're not clean either, there was what they did to Christopher Ayres (RIP) and Krystal LaPorte close to a decade ago now.

I've had a subscription for years but after not just reading about this but other workplace abuse allegations I'd rather not be giving them my money. Will now go through with deleting my Crunchyroll account to make it permanent.
