I believe the Go team expressed regret about it. Partially because it’s the 2nd of January instead of the 1st of February. But now it can’t be changed.

I’d have to try looking for it. It might have been a blog post, or nested somewhere in documentation, or it could be a fabrication of my mind even. Regardless, while the exact date annoys me, I don’t think it’s a bad approach.

and agreed that the US time format is the most annoying to remember.
Some colleagues of mine thought this was some kind of early significant date for Go, so that's what spurred my research :)
