yes, the engineer is hardly ever held accountable, but w/so many crashes, they have to be expected! If we had 5 people injured by blenders, we would have a national blender recall--1 product, 1 brand. But here we have a combo of 2 failed designs crashing together: the autos & the roads. RECALL both!

more and more I'm seeing the need to stop begging 'the system' to hold drivers accountable for expected behavior, but instead to hold the engineers to higher standards.It's their blender, well stroad, hurting people. We should expect car users to speed when it's comfortable to do so. #TrafficCalming

I enjoyed the episode and agreed of course with the arguments. I would add though that in many cases people are forced to be motorists. The way our cities are designed, the lack of cycling infrastructure and public transport makes it hard to ditch the car. Also roads seem built to race 1/2

Pedestrians and cyclists are seen as intruders because roads are designed for motor vehicles. We need to redesign our cities. That will change choice of transport and culture (at least to some extent) 2/2

Good episode. Had a question. On people at crosswalks study and driver behavior - has anyone factored in race of the driver to see if choice to stop stopping is related to the person wanting to cross being different than the driver?

interesting! while that would be very hard to do,police pulling over drivers down the block, out of view, &have them ask such a question if car user wanted to volunteer that info. I have seen articles about types of cars not stopping: BMW tops, I bet Tesla & emotional support v's like lifted trucks.

Wouldn’t ask . Would just ask crosser to note and maybe have a downstream spotter try to note and then compile the data collected to note any differences. I’m guessing people more likely will stop fur people who look like them.

When you got to the part where you talk about victim blaming, I was of course reminded of feminism and how women get blamed for all the negative things that happen in their lives. This applies to any oppressed group. People with power get to define the reality in which we exist.
