>The only other card in that list of power creep is a Companion card.
It speaks volumes on just how much of a mistake the mechanic was in the first place. If Timeless has taught me anything is that both Lurrus and Yorion would've make the playpatterns of ToR and Boros Energy even more miserable.
But what's the diversity of the deck building? Sure it might be annoying to have the one ring show up and all the decks but is it causing like one or two particular decks to jump ahead? I don't know a lot about modern That's just a trend I've seen in the past. Good work getting the stats together!
The second issue with Modern currently is that Energy is like 35% of the meta. I don't think The One Ring is responsible for that (the deck does play TOR, but it was good before TOR was added to it), but you can argue its part of the Energy problem at least.
If it doesn't get banned that's a pretty clear signal there's some legal requirement for certain Universes Beyond properties regarding format legality. There's no other rational explanation. Regardless, it should make all players nervous about Marvel and Final Fantasy being unbannable.
Yeah, if it doesn't happen this time I'm going to start believing the conspiracy theory that they can't ban Lord of the Rings cards until they are done selling the set (which is apparently next summer, two years after the release).
Perhaps the most impressive part of The One Rings dominance is that its metagame percentage continued to grow through a Modern Horizons release, which typically invalidates most old staples and replaces them with new cards, but not The One Ring. It keeps getting better.
And the price keeps dropping. Thats what I don't understand at all. Atleast the paper price is dropping to under 40 euro on cardmarket.
I got a playset before MH 3, cause I wanted to play tron, just to find out, I need to invest another 300-400 bucks in MH 3 stuff.
Which really sucks
I assume it's the Nadu thing where people are starting to realize more and more that it's likely to get banned, and thus want to sell their copies off before the price fully tanks from the ban.
That'd be my guess, anyway. If the next B&R doesn't ban it, expect the price to shoot back up.
Modern is in a weird place. Boros Energy is dominating. I think Bowmasters is the most played creature that doesn't go in Boros Energy, but that doesn't mean much at the moment. Unsure how problematic it will be once Energy gets banned.
This list is so depressing even apart from that. 7 cards from the same archetype, entirely created by MH3. I used to love Burn and Humans in modern. I have not been back to the format since suffering through a Hogaak GP.
I think it's very unlikely it gets banned in Commander. It's so expensive that it doesn't actually see *that* much play since people are priced out of it. I'd rather see it aggressively reprinted for Commander to make it cheaper.
My issue with The Precious is that it's an auto-include. Every EDH deck I have was improved by its inclusion. And if the deck includes white, then the deck is further improved with an Enlightened Tutor (basically just a second copy of The Precious). #CastItIntoMountDoom
